The Anglo-Français de Petite Vénerie is a medium-sized breed of dog. Its color ranges from tan, black, and white, or two of the three colours in any combination, (i.e. white and black, or white and orange). Its coat is tight, smooth and short. It is 19-22 inches tall It is a compact dog that is a half-breed and is very well equipped for its purpose. It is solid, rapid and has good stamina. Its nose and throat are typically French traits, but what best characterises it in relation to other breeds is its temperament which is brilliant for hunting large game. The breed was developed by crossing English hounds with French hounds, likely beginning during the sixteenth century.
